An Active Lifestyle Can Cleanse The Mind and Body

By | January 30, 2019

Exercising and maintaining an active lifestyle have been long regarded as methods for managing your weight – which is true. Yet that’s not the only reason staying fit and active is essential to your health. Exercise and other physical activities, when done on a consistent basis, actually cleanses both the body and mind by removing harmful toxins from your system. Toxins, that would otherwise collect and result in a host of physical and psychological problems.

How Does it Work?

How can being more active help flush your system? Essentially, when you’re moving around your breath and sweat production are increased while your blood circulation is improved. Sweat is one of the body’s natural methods for getting rid of toxins. Increased breaths allow more oxygen to get into the body as exhaling helps to release toxins. As for blood circulation, when there is increased blood circulating through the body, it assists the liver in pumping out waste even faster.

Exercises for Detox

Not only is exercise and an active lifestyle recommended by doctors and health experts, but has been a proven method for treating participants at a dual diagnosis rehab as a means to rid the mind and body of harmful chemicals left behind by drugs or alcohol. Though there are plenty of exercises and activities you could consider, here are a few suggestions to put you closer to a clear mind and body:

Aerobics

When you think aerobics you might be thinking of jumping jacks and bicycle kicks on a mat, but there are other aerobic activities you could start incorporating into your lifestyle. Aerobic exercises aren’t necessarily high-intensity, but they’re enough to increase your heart rate which induces heavier breathing.  You could try swimming, riding a bike, spinning, dancing, kickboxing, and even skiing.

Jumping

If you love the idea of bouncing around on a trampoline then you’ll love a fun exercise known as rebounding. The repetitive bouncing motions help to release toxins by stimulating the lymph system. As this happens, the lymph nodes work to filter out the harmful substances found in your body. The best part is, it only takes about 20 minutes 3 times a week to do the trick.

Yoga

Yoga is an exercise method that was designed to help heal the mind and body. When practicing yoga, there are specific potions that can be learned to help speed up the detoxing process. For instance, the wide-legged forward bend is a pose that is designed to reverse gravity’s pull promoting improved blood circulation. The three-legged downward facing dog is another pose used for detox. When the head is below the heart, it helps to again increase circulation and also moves fluids to lymph nodes which are responsible for helping to fight off infectious diseases.

Quick Tips to an Active Lifestyle

So, you’re interested in exercising and getting more active to cleanse your mind and body, but how do you find the motivation, let alone the time. When your life is already filled with a ton of responsibilities and little time to take care of you, figuring out how to incorporate more exercise into your life may seem impossible. Here are a few quick tips to transitioning and making exercise and physical activity a habit.

  • Make it fun – If going to the gym isn’t your thing then don’t go. As you can see from the list above there are plenty of activities you could consider. Perhaps join a dance class or go swimming at your local community pool a few days a week. Just find something that interests you as this will keep you motivated.
  • Start slow – When you haven’t been exercising you don’t want to overload your mind or body with too much at once. Start by working out for 10 minutes a day 2 days a week and work your way up from there.
  • Convenience – It’s not a good idea to try and commit to going to the gym 5 times a week if your schedule doesn’t accommodate that. Try doing it at a time that is convenient. Wake up early in the morning and do 30 minutes of a yoga video or find a gym that has childcare

An active lifestyle is great for helping you keep those stubborn pounds away, but it’s also great for flushing out harmful toxins you encounter on a daily basis. Though the body has it’s own methods for cleansing itself, you can enhance this process by incorporating more exercise into your life. After incorporating activities like swimming, cycling, or yoga into your regular routine, you’ll start to notice a significant difference in everything from your weight and skin to your energy and mind.
